Each year, Hip Hop supporters from around the country gather in Seattle, Washington to celebrate and experience the 206 Zulu - Universal Zulu Nation Anniversaries.

In only a few short years, 206 Zulu has recieved wide recognition for the precedence it has set in community-building, education, outreach, activism, and artistic excellence. Since its inception in 2004, 206 Zulu has taken the UZN motto of "Knowledge, Wisdom, and Understanding" to another level for the next generation.

Once a year, 206 Zulu dedicates Presidents weekend in February as a time to celebrate not just the organizations accomplishments, but to pay tribute to the entire Hip Hop culture.

Continuing in the tradition of 'Peace, Love, Unity & Having Fun', this 3 day event carries a mission to

* Celebrate the 8th Anniversary of 206 Zulu.

* Preserve and promote the elements of Hip Hop culture: Deejaying and Emceeing (music), Graff (visual art), and B-Boying/B-Girling (dance).

* Delineate the uplifting and empowering essence of Hip Hop.

* Create dialog to aid in solutions to prevalent issues in the Hip Hop community and the world at large.

* Raise consciousness on aforementioned issues to those outside the Hip Hop community.

* Heighten the exposure of emerging artists from around the country.

* Motivate youth by providing positive avenues of self-expression and encouraging unity.

* Open lines of communication for personal growth and networking.

* Unify people of all-ages from all walks of life.

206 Zulu would like to thank everyone who participated in the 8th Anniversary events, an incredible milestone for the organization and moment in Hip Hop history! Around 1,000 people gathered over the weekend from throughout the Pacific Northwest and other states including California, Oregon, New York, New Jersey and Wisconsin to name a few. The guest of honor- none other than the Godfather of Hip Hop and founder of the Universal Zulu Nation; Afrika Bambaataa!

All events took place at 206 Zulu's headquarters, the Historic Washington Hall in the Central District, also anchored with partner organizations Hidmo and Voices Rising. The festivities began on Friday the 17th with Infinity Night, a family-friendly meet and greet, blackbook sessions, games, graffiti art gallery and open dance cyphers with sounds provided by DJs Rob Nice, Sean Malik and Don Dizzy.

The duration of Saturday afternoon consisted of a 40' x 8' live painting of a graff mural and a well-attended b-boy workshop led by B-Boy Thesis. Evening Zulu Jam featured the live band Gravity Kings and performances by Hasan Salam, Sista Hailstorm, Rose Bent, King Kamonzi, artists from the 206 Zulu collective and DJs Seabefore and Gumbeaux. Downstairs the lodge boasted the Zulu Throwdown preliminaries with DJs Soul One and Delrokz and the evening culminated to the legendary Afrika Bambaataa.

Sunday afternoon's Meeting of the Minds was a call for unity in our community and consisted of many great words including Afrika Bambaataa, King Kamonzi, Estella Ortega, Kepra Ptah, Wyking Allah, Silver Shadow D, and Brother Iron Hebrew. Longtime volunteer Sire One was inducted into the organization as well as honoraries Brother Iron Hebrew and West Coast Tapemaster DJ B-Mello. Evening showcase included DJs Cues, Tecumseh, Luvva-J, Turtledove, and Revels, X-Kid, Mixed Mediums, Black Magic Noize, Rocket One, Saturday Morning Cartoon, Kept See and Suntonio Bandanaz. The Zulu Throwdown 4-on-4 battle was indeed the highlight and in the final round between Massive Monkees and 1312, 1312 took home the $1,000 cash and prizes!
